The Winter Ant
Category: Insects etc., ScienceThe ant in my “Organic landscape“ post was identified as Prenolepis imparis, the Winter Ant by Alex Wild. I’m always happy when someone can supply an ID when I’m not sure.
Alex is a biologist in Arizona, and his excellent insect photography, especially of ants, can be seen here.

Many of your other ant photos are also Prenolepis imparis (the smallish shiny ant), but you also have a lot of the eastern carpenter ant Camponotus pennsylvanicus (the large black ant), and a few of a Formica species (medium sized, with a silvery sheen).
