    Reminds me of a story my gardening goddess aunt told me. Noticed an ootheca was hatching, and after the 1st one was “born”, it stood watch for subsequent siblings to be born, and ate them as soon as they were out. Aunt finally could not take it, and relocated eldest elsewhere. I think about that a lot. THAT is a dyed-in-the-wool predator. Wow.
