Louder than bombs

Well, maybe not some bombs, but the male cicada is the loudest insect. Still clinging to a multi-colored blade of grass is the abandoned skin of a cicada, whose song is heard almost everywhere at this time.

I have heard these guys in my yard, but never see them alive. They have left their exoskeletons all over. In my garden. my mailbox and even my screen door. They are awesome miniature sirens.

That’s a great image, Denice, “miniature sirens”. A new take on Homer’s Odyssey.
