Cute soldier

A descendent (on its mother’s side) of the fossil in amber in the previous post, this soldier beetle was in a rock garden in Howell, Michigan.

These beetles are related to fireflies, and are a good thing to find in your garden — they prey on many common pests (like aphids).

Thanks, Susan. Great observation about the Halloween colors, I hadn’t noticed. Now about Wednesday . . .

    Not to anthropomorphize,
    but…this bug’s expression is gleeful!

So, do insects have fun, do they play?

  • Strangefeather |

That's a question that deserves a post all its own, I think.

He looks like he’s getting ready for a sneak attack on that vigilant villain of the garden, Alan Aphid.
