Brush away the dust
Snug against a grass blade, this moth flits across lawns on hot summer evenings.
The bushy mouthparts could brush away the dust from an ant army a thousand strong.

Sensitive.
I am
Sensitive.
I heard you.
I taste the dust you shed.
You are not yet a threat.
I will know when you are.
Nice one, Pete. I wish I could taste the dust with sensitive antennae.
Great photo.
Thanks Moe. Common, but very cool.
This is a great photo. One of those rare examples where an unlikely subject gets turned into beautiful art.
However, the bushy structures are not the moths antennae. They are the maxillary palps – sensory structures on the moth’s mouth parts. The moth’s antennae are folded back over its body and are the two clear thin lines over the back.
Thanks for the clarification CJ. I’ll change the description.
This was an older image I hadn’t looked at in a while, and decided I liked it better as a monochrome image.
WOW…sharp focus where it matters and the blur creates a beautiful sense of motion. How did you manage this shot !!
Thanks Thomas. This was done a while ago, and I believe I thought it had too much area out of focus, so I forgot about it.
Now that I’ve tried it as a monochrome image, I like it, the color was too distracting, especially since the moth a dull beige anyway.
