The velocity of these small beings is breathtaking.

  • Rick said:

Too fast for me most of the time, Kathe.

I believe in flight as well, nice words . . . very nice.

What birds do without a thought, people will never accomplish.

Oh, we fly in big tin cans, but can never achieve true free flight. *sigh*

  • Rick said:

Thanks Diana and Denice. I went up in a glider once, about as close as you can get.

    No sound, just the wind.

The empty sky is my best friend
And I just cast my fate to the wind.

  • Rick said:

    Nice couplet, Pete, thanks.

Sometimes the skies here are more than a little busy.

Don’t forget the guy who flew across the English Channel with wings and a jet pack!

  • Rick said:

That must have been fun, Daryl. But with a glider you don’t need any power, although you do need to be towed up by something initially.

  • Denice Brown said:

Yes, I suppose a glider would do it. Do those things have air sickness bags???

  • Rick said:

Only what you you bring in your pocketses, Denice.

I haven’t heard of anyone getting sick in a glider.

  • Kathe Koja said:

What a joy it would be, to be able to leave the earth at a moment’s notice.

  • Daryl Hutchinson said:

A glider would be the best as you could ride the thermals and not worry about running out of gas, plus it would be nice and quiet.

  • Rick said:

I couldn’t believe how quiet it was, Daryl. And a good pilot can stay aloft indefinitely.

  • Robert Curry said:

    Beautiful photo, beautiful Ballard quote.

  • Rick said:

Thanks Robert, I don’t think I could run out of great Ballard quotes.
